See all of A Beginners guide to Electric cars

Are you intending to buy an Electric car, and have a driveway but don’t have a charger yet or don’t have a driveway for a charger?

Awaiting a charger

If it’s the former then to get the Government OLEV grant you’ll need at least the registration number first. Meanwhile you’ll need to you a regular 13amp power point.

Don’t have a driveway

If you don’t have a driveway, but need to charge an Electric car, firstly check what chargers are local to you. Google maps is the simplest way, just search for ‘charger’. Ensure that they provide the appropriate socket for your car’s charging plug.

If there isn’t one near your home, the next step is to contact your local council to learn their plans for developing on-street and car park charging facilities. The Government provides funding for them to increase the number of chargers under the On-street residential chargepoints scheme.
