Why are Manufacturers so focused on Electric Car Range?

The manufacturers are aware that most first time Electric car buyers are stuck in their ‘Petrol thinking’ and assume that electric cars need to have the same range as their Petrol or Diesel cars and so are prepared to pay a premium for higher range. Tesla primarily build for the North American market and, because of the longer long distance journeys driven there, have an even greater incentive to maximise the range.
